A therapy, diagnostic or research tool moves through discovery, evidence generation, quality, regulation, manufacturing, adoption and communication. Each stage needs people who can interpret biological evidence while working with different constraints.

For example, a regulatory role may compare evidence with formal requirements, a product role may translate clinical needs into priorities, and a scientific editor may test whether a claim is supported. The scientific foundation remains useful even when experiments are no longer the daily activity.

Test a route without abandoning science

Choose one adjacent function and complete a small piece of representative work: critique a public clinical paper, draft a plain-language evidence summary, map the stakeholders for a diagnostic product or analyse how a laboratory process scales. Ask a practitioner to comment on your reasoning.

Describe the transition through transferable evidence—careful interpretation, uncertainty, documentation and communication—rather than presenting it as an escape from the laboratory.
